Distillation
|
Chemtech designs distillation systems ranging in size from laboratory to production facilities. The basis of design for a distillation plant starts in our laboratories where we define the specific distillation characteristics of the customer's product. Chemtech's laboratories are equipped with a number of glass distillation systems ranging from simple condensers used with batch processes to fractional distillation columns, wiped film evaporators, and our specialty, high vacuum short path distillation systems. In order to assure the laboratory distillation achieve the molecular separation required, Chemtech has a variety of analytical devices available ranging from traditional automated titrating equipment to auto-sampling Gas Chromatography. |

Laboratory distillation provide the initial engineering basis for designing a pilot plant of commercial facility, but the final test is to conduct trial distillation of commercial quantities in a pilot plant environment. Chemtech operates three multi-stage distillation pilot plants constructed of stainless steel, and equipped with multiple-stage high vacuum pumps to assure mild temperature distillation conditions under high vacuum. The laboratory equipment is capable of operating at vacuum conditions of 0.001 mbar (absolute pressure) and temperature conditions as high as 350°C, which conditions equate to an atmospheric equivalent boiling point over 750°C (or 1382°F). Design circumstances requiring a large commercial distillation facility invariably require confirmation of laboratory data in one of Chemtech's multi-stage, stainless steel pilot plant units where commercial quantities of material can be distilled. The data obtained from pilot plant distillation provides a high level of certainty with respect to scaled designs and allows the final engineering design to be as cost effective as possible. |
